Dear Members:
The all-party Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship is conducting a review of the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act, better known to physicians as the sunshine list legislation. The bill became law in 2015 and provided for regular legislative reviews. The committee has invited public submissions to inform its 2019 review and the AMA was asked to comment.
The AMA’s position on this issue has not altered in the years since the law was passed. I thought members would like to see our response to that effect. This letter was provided to the committee last week, and in turn references a 2015 President’s Letter from then-President, Dr. Carl W. Nohr.
We will keep you posted in the months ahead as we hear more about the review process and the decisions government may make as a result.
You can reach me with comments via email at [email protected]. You can also comment below on this President’s Letter (please note that website comments are open to the general public).
The Representative Forum meets September 27-28. I will write again before then to give you a sense of how things stand heading into the meeting.
Warm regards,
Alison M. Clarke, MD, CCFP, FCFP
President
