Dear Members:
On January 31, I wrote to inform members that our negotiations with government were moving to mediation. Unfortunately, that voluntary mediation process was not successful.
There are a few possibilities for next steps. Some of which the parties can do together, others that would be done separately. We are actively exploring our options and will be reaching out to the Health Minister to discuss a way forward that will satisfy the needs of Albertans and treat physicians fairly.
Physicians are well aware that these are challenging times in our province, which is why it is more important than ever for government and physicians to work together in the best overall interests of patients.
It is essential that physicians and government find a way forward to reach a respectful settlement that will meet the needs of Albertans. We need to be able to examine problems, reach conclusions and enter into agreements that physicians can depend on. We are committed to doing our part to make this happen.
I will provide further updates to members in the coming days.
