Fact-checking government statements

Every day, misinformation about the health care system – often coming from government talking points – gets amplified and repeated in media coverage and on social media. For physicians, evidence matters. The barrage of misleading commentary is beyond frustrating.

Dear Members,

Every day, misinformation about the health care system – often coming from government talking points – gets amplified and repeated in media coverage and on social media. For physicians, evidence matters. The barrage of misleading commentary is beyond frustrating.

That’s why we are launching a publication called Fact Checkup. It explains health care system topics and issues that government needs to be accurate about and accountable for, because Albertans deserve to understand what is going on.

Here is the first issue of Fact Checkup and it deals primarily with the Physician Services Budget and the Physician Comprehensive Care Model. We’ll be sharing it on our social media accounts and through this President’s Letter that will also go to MLAs and subscribing media.

We’re constantly scanning for misinformation. If you spot or hear something that you think needs a fact checkup, please let me know at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Shelley Duggan, MD, FRCPC
President, Alberta Medical Association
