Our commenting policy
Online commenting
Please be aware that both your name and your comments will be visible on public pages. Your comments may also be sharable outside the AMA website.
To encourage productive discussion, we ask you to abide by the simple guidelines outlined below.
Please …
- Be polite.
- Respect other people who are posting comments.
- Stay on topic.
Comments are moderated before posting. We reserve the right to redact foul language or personally identifiable information if we deem your comment as otherwise acceptable for posting. Comments will not be approved for posting if they:
- Involve personal attacks (or attacks on organizations), offensive language or unsubstantiated allegations.
- Do not relate to the article by which they are posted.
- Are multiple postings of the same comment on various post threads.
- Include personal information such as home addresses, personal phone numbers, emails, personal or patient medical information or other personally identifiable information.
- Are posted so often that others may be discouraged from posting.
- Promote products or services.
- Are spam or that contain malicious content (e.g., viruses and linking to pages that hijack browsers).
- Include copyrighted material.
- Contain inappropriate images, usernames, profiles, signature lines, and avatars.
- Include threats or that are contrary to the law in any other way.
To maintain the value of the discussion, or to reduce automated postings, we may occasionally close a discussion to further comments.
We may quote your comment in AMA publications (without naming you) if the comment is particularly relevant or reflects the views of many other AMA members. Spelling and grammatical mistakes will not be corrected. All comments are the opinion of the comment writer, not the AMA.
Please notify us about any postings that contravene this policy:
Please note: In commenting, you have agreed to abide by the policy above. This policy can change without notification.
