Operations and Membership Services branch focuses on support and advocacy for physician members in the core business areas of advocacy, quality and innovation and support. Operations and Membership Services is responsible for the AMA’s functional areas by providing corporate services and operational support to the organization and its membership.

Who we are
The governance branch is accountable for the processes, controls, records, and communications related to the AMA’s registration, constitution, bylaws, elections, and governance bodies. This portfolio includes the processes associated with the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Representative Forum, and relationships with zone and other AMA committees and bodies. In addition to support for the governance structure, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for financial management for all aspects of the budget process for AMA core activities and programs, and oversight of branch activities.
Who we are
The Health Policy, Economics and Representation branch supports physicians through compensation strategy and policy development on behalf of Alberta physicians. The branch:
- Supports the negotiation process of the provincial AMA Agreement with government and manages agreement implementation aspects.
- Monitors expenditures for insured physician services.
- Supports the development and implementation of a physician compensation strategy that aligns compensation with overall system objectives.
- Provides physician payment support for fee-for-service physicians through maintenance of the Schedule of Medical Benefits, managing the fee allocation process, fee relativity process and provision of billing advice/seminars.
- Provides advice on the provision of uninsured services and publishes the uninsured services guide.
- Provides claims submission services on behalf of physicians working through the Physician Locum Services program.
- Supports physician resource planning initiatives.
- Promotes physician engagement and involvement in the improvement of health care delivery.
- Supports AMA engagement with physicians in academic medicine and physicians through sections.
Who we are
Health System Transformation is the branch of the Alberta Medical Association which focuses on support and advocacy for physician members in the core Key Result Areas of Well-Being. We perform these functions through a multi-faceted team-based approach which includes collaboration with and the support of other branches of the AMA.
Health System Transformation fulfills its mandate under the AMA Vision and Mission by responding to members' concerns; by supporting them in resolving professional issues related to their practice or AHS appointments; by liaising with health care organizations, programs and government departments; by reviewing and assisting in developing policy statements and by providing oversight and management of the key quality programs and initiatives in our area.
We manage and operate the Physician and Family Support Program.
Who we are
The Public Affairs department acts as a liaison between the AMA and the general public, either through direct contact or via the media. Our primary goal is to ensure the appropriate communication of messages and information and in this way to engage our members at the appropriate level.
The department is responsible for public and media relations, member engagement, marketing and the AMA's primary print and web and social media activities.
The SAO supports the southern operations of the Alberta Medical Association. The negotiations area of the AMA's Southern Alberta Office provides support to physicians with the negotiations and implementation process of the AMA Agreement, physician resource planning initiatives, the Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP);
the implementation of legislation to recognize AMA's representation rights for all physicians and supporting the Zone Medical Staff Associations.
