Allocation 2015

May 22, 2014

The strategy for allocation 2015 is similar to this year’s allocation: promoting comprehensive care. We developed this strategy over the course of many years and in broad consultation with our profession. Decisions related to allocating our general practice increases over the years have been guided by this principle.

The sections have received direction from the Alberta Medical Association’s Board of Directors to get as close to intra-sectional relativity (INRV) for our respective fees as quickly as possible and this is something we are striving to achieve. INRV refers to the ranking of the health service codes used by a section in the order of their value and assigning a specific weighting to each code.

The health service codes when properly ranked, should reflect the intensity and complexity of each medical service and the time it takes to complete it.

Lastly, the sections of General Practice and Rural Medicine executives are aware that there are many different types of family practices. We’ve spoken with many of you and know that changes to the fee codes can dramatically impact you. Some of you have recommended changes and we have tried to implement them to the best of our ability.

The requests/suggestions that were unable to be included in this allocation, are on our ongoing list of pending items to review.
